Na novém maďarském labelu Exiles se potkává hardcore techno s Bélou Bartókem

Projekt začal koncertní akcí a postupně se rozrostl o online zvukovou sbírku spřízněných producentů nejen z Budapešti, ale i z Prahy, Bratislavy či Moskvy. 

Vzniku labelu Exiles předcházela stejnojmenná akce, která proběhla v roce 2016 v Budapešti. Jak vás napadlo založit label?
Tehdy jsem ještě nepřemýšlel nad labelem, akorát jsem od lidí, kteří na mé akci hráli, sbíral tracky a dával je na Soundcloud. Byla na to dobrá odezva a tak jsem v tom pokračoval. Rád tu sbírku nazývám moderní lidovou hudbou. Zajímám se o tvorbu hudebníků žijících v mém okolí, kteří tvoří v určitém pozadí. Hlavně těch, kteří se nikam netlačí a nepropagují se.

Aktuálně je venku kazetová kompilace labelu Exiles, která sdružuje čtyři maďarské producenty různých generací. Jaký má koncept?
Před nedávnem vyšla naše první kazeta. Jedná se o kompilaci čtyř tracků. Je to dekonstrukce zvuku 90. let. Naleznete tam charakteristické dobové elementy jako třeba klasický amen break nebo rychlejší hardcore techno. Chtěli jsme ukázat nové polohy tohoto zvuku, který nyní v evropské i mezinárodní klubové scéně prožívá renesanci.

Béla Bartók and hardcore techno: New Hungarian label Exiles

 Exiles is a relatively new Hungarian initiative run by a young promoter, student and label owner Erik Kolbenheyer. Inspired by a talk about the last years of the famous Hungarian composer Béla Bartók who died in US emigration misunderstood by the local public, Kolbenheyer also brings together musicians who in spite of apparent talent, remain underexposed. Exiles began as an event/festival with several live acts. The project gradually developed into an online sound collection of affiliated producers from Budapest, Prague, Bratislava or Moscow.

 The label itself was preceded by an event of the same name, which took place in 2016 in Budapest. Where did the idea to establish the imprint originate?
I hadn't been thinking about a label back then, I'd just been collecting tracks from the people who played at my event and put it on Soundcloud. I received good feedback and continued searching for and collecting music. I like to call the collection a sort of “modern folk music”. I'm interested in the work of those musicians living in my surroundings that work in some sort of seclusion. Especially those who do not push or promote themselves.

 You've recently released a cassette compilation bringing together four Hungarian producers from various generations. What is the concept of this release?
It's a four track compilation, a deconstruction of the 90s sound. There are various period elements such as the classic amen break or faster hardcore techno. We wanted to present new deconstructions of this sound which is experiencing a Renaissance on the European and international club scene at the moment. 

 Soon, there will be the sophomore release called Gamma Candies by the duo Márton Csernovszky and Anna Makay. What other plans do you have?
We'd like to organize a bigger rave in November together with two other local crews Pénz and Davoria. The event should also have a social aspect. This time – we did a Greenpeace fundraiser during our first event – we'd like to help the homeless. When I read about the roots of this scene I feel that in the 90s, the scene had a much bigger political and social aspect. I'm not saying that we need to change society, but I think that if you're doing something, it should have a certain social or at least positive impact.
