Czeching 2018: Breakthrough year for Czech music export

This year, the Radio Wave’s nomination has been won by the indie-folk duo teepee, which has released two successful albums and has played many concerts abroad. In the list of five nominees, there is also the rising star of the rap scene, Hellwana, who surprised us with her debut EP last year, the sophisticated hit-maker Jaro, whose debut album was released by Full Moon, or 1flfsoap, characterized by their live improvised dance sets. Not missing among the nominees are surf rock The Atavists, who are reaping success with their last album released on Bigg Boss.

All nominees will be able to be seen live at the Czeching Showcase event in the newly refurbished MeetFactory club on September 25th. The evening culminates with the announcement of the winners and a performance of British composer, producer and singer Nabihah Iqbal.The performances will be preceded by discussions on the roles and strengths of music in the ever-changing music industry, which will be attended by one of the Czeching jurors Christoph Lindemann, a playwright of the German youth station PULS.

Part of this year's edition will be an educational round table supported by the Czech Music Office. Lectures and workshops entitled Czeching Skills will take place on September 4 and 5, and will be followed by a series of educational events called SoundCzech Skills, which are regularly organized by the Czech Music Office. The theme of music management, organization and planning will be explored. Among the lecturers will be British music manager and former rapper Danny Fahey, founder of the Thirty Pound Gentleman project, which helps young artists to orientate themselves in the music industry, as well as Mirca Lotz, a German booking agent, founder of the project We Make Waves.
