Beyond the Headlines: Original Conversations With the People Shaping Our World
What does it feel like to be hunted by drones in a war zone? How do we talk to people who deny climate change? And what changes in a person after seeing Earth from space? These are just some of the questions explored in the original English-language interviews from the Bedny series, which we are now making available in their full, unedited form.
Created and hosted by Czech journalist Jan Žižka, BEDNY brings together some of the most inspiring voices of our time — from scientists and explorers to journalists, writers and public figures. While selected excerpts and adapted versions have previously appeared in Czech Radio broadcasts, the original conversations often contain stories, reflections and insights that could not fit into a traditional radio format. Publishing the interviews in their entirety allows listeners to experience the discussions exactly as they happened, in the guests’ own words and voices.
Among the first conversations now available are interviews with Ukrainian war reporter Caolan Robertson, who speaks about documenting Russia’s invasion and reporting from areas targeted by drones; climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe, who explains why understanding people may be just as important as understanding science; and astronaut Paolo Nespoli, who reflects on life aboard the International Space Station and the profound perspective gained from looking back at Earth from orbit. Through Jan Žižka’s thoughtful and deeply human interviews, BEDNY offers listeners a chance to go beyond headlines and discover the experiences, motivations and ideas of people whose work is helping shape the world around us.
