VÝCHODISKA: Video art platforma D'EST
D'EST, v preklade „Z východu“, je film známej režisérky Chantal Akerman, ktorý zobrazuje východnú Európu po rozpade Sovietskeho zväzu. D'est je taktiež názov novej platformy pre video art a film, ktorá má za cieľ zobrazovať rôzne pohľady na (bývalú) východnú Európu a dichotómiu Východ–Západ. Projekt mal prednedávnom oficiálne zahájenie v berlínskej galérii Martin-Gropius-Bau, a zopár snímok si už môžete pozrieť na ich webe.
„Projekt D'EST je kurátorovaný archív mapujúci ženské a kolektívne perspektívy vo video arte a filme umelcami z bývalého východného a západného bloku, ktorý sa zameriava na perspektívu tranzície,“ hovorí jedna z iniciátoriek projektu (spolu s umeleckou riaditeľkou Ulrike Gerhardt), kurátorka a spoluzakladateľka bukurešťského priestoru Atelier 35 Xandra Popescu. Okrem online platformy prebiehajú aj premietania. Projekt sa v priebehu nasledujúcich dvoch rokov predstaví v Dánsku, v Poľsku alebo v Rusku. Projekt bude rozdelený na tematické oblasti, každé dva tri mesiace platforma privíta nových kurátorov.
Prvou témou, ktorej dielčie výsledky si môžete pozrieť online, bol O’ Mystical East and West (Ó, mystický Východ a Západ) Xandry Popescu. Názov je inšpirovaný kapitolou z knihy poľskej autorky Agaty Pyzik Poor But Sexy: Culture Clashes in Europe East and West o vzájomnom vplyve západnej a východnej Európy počas komunizmu. Medzi videami nájdeme aj diela autoriek pôsobiacich v Čechách, ako napríklad “Porn Video” od Anetty Mony Chisa a Lucie Tkáčovej alebo “Reliable Relationships” Barbory Kleinhamplovej.
D'EST: O’ Mystical East and West
D'EST, meaning “From the East”, is a film by the famous director Chantal Akerman, which depicts eastern Europe in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union. D'EST is also the name of a new platform for video art and film, which aims to present various perspectives on (former) eastern Europe as well as the dichotomy East – West. The project has recently been launched at the Berlin gallery Martin-Gropius-Bau, and you can watch a few videos on their website already.
“The project D'EST is going to be a curated archive which maps female and collective positions in video works and films by artists from the former East and West which deal with the notion of transition,” says one of the initiators of the project (alongside artistic director Ulrike Gerhardt), curator and co-founder of the Bucharest project space Atelier 35 Xandra Popescu. Aside from the online platform, screenings are also planned. In the next two years, the project will travel to Denmark, Poland or Russia. Thematically, it is divided into various sections, depending on the curator or curatorial team that will rotate each two, three months. The first topic, whose results you can view online, is O’ Mystical East and West by Xandra Popescu. The name is inspired by Polish writer Agata Pyzik's book Poor But Sexy: Culture Clashes in Europe East and West about the mutual influence of eastern and western Europe during communism. Among the videos, you can also find works by Czech-based authors, such as “Porn Video” by Anetta Mona Chisa and Lucia Tkáčová or “Reliable Relationships” by Barbora Kleinhamplová.
D’EST Prologue: O’ Mystical East and West is supported by the Centenart Program of the Romanian Cultural Institute and the National Cultural Fund Administration in Romania.
